CEBU CITY - Acting Mayor Michael Rama on Tuesday announced that their local political group is endorsing Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go for president and outgoing Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte for vice president in the 2022 elections.
Rama made this announcement in a gathering of local candidates under the coalition of Partido Barug, Partido Kusug, Panaghiusa and Marino party-list in the south district here.
"The die has been cast. Consistent with our position to align with who President (Rodrigo) Duterte anoints to lead our country after his term, and as members of PDP-Laban, our group... in Cebu City supports (Go) for president under PDDS (Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan), Pederalismo ng Digong Dakilang Samahan. As we have also committed to her, our alliance adopts Davao City Mayor Sara Zimmerman Duterte-Carpio as our candidate for vice president," Rama said in a press conference.
Rama expressed confidence that under Go, the next administration will continue the strong socio-economic programs started by Duterte.
"Yes, we can have the continuity that we want to have. The Duterte administration has many significant programs, the Build, Build, Build that amplifies inter-connectivity is one. The campaign against drugs, corruption and criminality has also transformed our country into a golden age of good governance," Rama told the Philippine News Agency in an interview on the sidelines of the event.
The acting mayor also said they are supporting the decision of Duterte in joining the Senate race.
Apart from the President, Rama said they are also backing the senatorial bids of Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. and former Vice President Jejomar Binay.
"We will complete the rest of the 12 Senatorial aspirants to adopt in due time and take it one at a time," he added.
On Sunday, Go filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president under the PDDS, a national political party headed by Greco "Butch" Belgica, former presidential Anti-Corruption Commission chairman, who is running for senator.
Mayor Sara Duterte filed her COC for vice president under the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) while her father filed his COC for senator on Monday. (PNA)
