MANILA - Although Tropical Storm Domeng has intensified, it does not have a direct effect on the country, according to the weather bureau on Friday afternoon.
In an update sent before 6 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Domeng now packs maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It was last tracked 975 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon.
No tropical cyclone wind signal was hoisted in any part t of the country.
"Domeng" and Severe Tropical Storm Chaba (formerly Caloy) continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, which causes monsoon rains over the Kalayaan Islands and scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the rest of Luzon.
PAGASA said flash floods or landslides are likely in those areas due to scattered to widespread moderate to at times heavy rains.
Occasional gusty conditions reaching strong breeze to gale-force in strength continue to prevail over extreme northern Luzon, the northern and western portions of Luzon, and the western portion of the Visayas. These conditions are more likely in coastal and mountainous or upland localities.
Rough to very rough seas will be experienced over the western seaboard of Luzon, including Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, the western coast of Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island, and the western coast of Palawan including Kalayaan Island.
Moderate to rough seas continue to prevail over the remaining seaboards of northern Luzon. These conditions may be risky for small sea vessels. PAGASA urged mariners to take precautionary measures when venturing to the sea. If possible, avoid navigating in these conditions.
PAGASA forecast Domeng to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday. (PNA)
