MANILA - A magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit Davao Oriental early Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tectonic quake struck 51 km. southeast of the municipality of Manay at 3:19 a.m. It was 20 km. deep.
Intensity IV was felt in Manay, Tarragona, and Caraga, Davao Oriental.
Intensity III was felt in the City of Mati and Baganga, Davao Oriental; while intensity I was reported in the City of Davao.
Instrumental intensity I was recorded in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Malungon, Sarangani; and the City of Davao.
Reported intensity is the traditional way of knowing the intensity based on reports of people who felt the earthquake while instrumental intensity is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
Meanwhile, aftershocks are likely, while damage is not expected from this earthquake.
