Camfil, one of the world's largest and most technologically advanced air filtration companies, is proud of their ability to meet the performance demands for HEPA filters used in the nuclear industry. As a company that began by supplying HEPA filters to the new Swedish nuclear industry in the early 1960s, Camfil has a long history of excellence and innovation in the field of nuclear containment.
As the nuclear containment segment manager for Camfil, Glen Moore has over 42 years of experience in the industry and has spent the last seven years with Camfil. Moore states that Camfil's customer base includes a wide variety of applications, such as the Department of Energy, Department of Defense facilities, Navy yards, nuclear pharmaceuticals, nuclear medicines, and any institution that may be doing nuclear research.
When asked which of these facilities he spends the most time in, Moore responded that the department of energy facilities is the most frequent. The air filters that Camfil typically offers to the facilities are HEPA filters, as particulate contamination is a critical risk that must be controlled in these air systems. However, these are not the same HEPA filters used in other applications, as the risks are high and specialized filters are needed. Camfil's Absolute HEPA filters are qualified under ASME and meet AG1 section FC of the code, which defines the qualification requirements of the filters.
When asked how one can know or show that a HEPA filter is fully qualified, Moore stated that the filters are qualified by the U.S Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, and once qualified, a letter for each type of filter is issued and put on the QPL (Qualified Products List). Customers should request a copy of this document with their quotation.
In conclusion, Camfil's HEPA filters are the most frequent product used in nuclear containment. The filters are specially designed, engineered, manufactured and qualified as suitable for these facilities, meeting the highest standards set by the Department of Energy. Camfil is committed to providing the highest quality products and services to its customers in the nuclear industry.
