MANCHESTER, UK - One of two people killed in Thursday's attack on a synagogue in Manchester was likely killed by police responding to the incident. The finding, by the police patholiogist is preliminary.
The two Jewish worshippers killed at Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue on Thursday have been named as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66 both from Crumpsall.
Sir Stephen Watson, the Chief Constable at Greater Manchester Police later in the day confirmed one of the victims had died of a gunshot wound. One of the 3 victims that have been injured and is currently hospitalised, was also shot. The man arrested over the incident, Jihad Al Shamie, however was not carrying a gun.
Watson later issued a statement, posted on X, clarifying that it was likely a bullet fired by police who had been called to the scene, that was responsible for the death of one of the victims, and the wounding of another.
Meantime the family of the suspect issued a statement on Friday condemning the attack. "The news from Manchester regarding the terrorist attack targeting a Jewish synagogue has been a profound shock to us," the family ofAl Shamie said.
"The Al Shamie family in the UK and abroad strongly condemns this heinous act, which targeted peaceful, innocent civilians."
"We fully distance ourselves from this attack and express our deep shock and sorrow over what has happened," the statement said. "Our hearts and thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we pray for their strength and comfort."
